Garden delights abound in Parshall Farmers Market

By Edna Sailor

"We like the fresh vegetables. We love the market. We are looking for fresh cucumbers today," Susan Weidman said. Her friend, Laurie Severance agreed.

"We just love it and we try to get here early," she said.

They were among the first buyers to take part in the popular Farmers Market in Parshall on Thursday evening.

She was right. More and more people arrived to look over the tables full of produce. At one table a line formed.

The weather was perfect and it did not take long for a sizeable crowd of two dozen or more people to fill the small market of five vendors and keep them hopping. There were many choices that included zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes of all kinds and sizes, corn on the cob and green peppers to name a few. But that was not all. Homemade jellies, jams and pickles covered several tables as were onions and potatoes. One vendor offered hand stitched dishtowels as well. To tempt the sweet tooth vendors offered apple, peach and other pies. There was no shortage of specialty breads, including rhubarb bread, on hand for eager buyers.
