Funds secured for Lake Sakakawea upgrades
More than $500,000 has been secured that will improve access around Lake Sakakawea.
U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan, D-NPL, made the announcement this past Friday.
The funding will be used to upgrade the docks and extend the boat ramps around Lake Sakakawea, a federally owned lake operated by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. These improvements are necessary in order to allow recreational access to the lake during times of low lake levels, a Dorgan aide said.
The Corps works with Dorgan’s office and the Friends of Lake Sakakawea to determine priorities and the breakdown of funding. The entities are hoping to get together to discuss this in the next few weeks.
Dorgan, the chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, included the funding in the Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill, which was signed into law last week.
