The Memorial Congregational Church survived more than 90 years on the prairie and being moved to escape the rising waters of Lake Sakakawea. It was destroyed by a fire Monday morning.
A 22 year old man is in custody in connection to the fire. Law enforcement has not released the name of the suspect.
The fire was reported by a rancher who was checking on his cows. The Parshall Fire Department responded to the call and arrived at the church 18 miles south of Parshall at 9:48, according to Parshall Fire Chief Kurt Clemensen. He said that by the time the fire department arrived the roof had already collapsed and the walls were completely engulfed in flames.
