FBCC bring experts to speak

A full day of activities to promote community wealth and prosperity through agriculture took place in the final of four Growing Native Assets through Nature and Heritage conference held Friday in Fort Berthold Community College.
Co-sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Commerce and FBCC, the conference had numerous speakers, a panel discussion and interaction of audience members and speakers.
A large group of New Town and White Shield High School students were also in attendance.
Leading the conference was Dr. James Garrett, with the beginning farmer and rancher program at FBCC. Garrett talked about 5-acre community based garden and why it is important to individuals and the Fort Berthold Reservation.
He said the garden not only grows corn and potatoes, but is a place for the elderly to gather, allows research to be done and is that magical place for children to learn about the magic of growing your own food.
