Fact Finding Commission makes recommendations
Editor’s note: A Fact Finding Commission, which has met with the Lewis and Clark Education Association and the Lewis and Clark School Board, has made its recommendations for a compromise. The recommendations follow. A second meeting to settle the issue was scheduled for Wednesday night (Sept. 2), too late for this edition. Full details will be reported in next week’s edition. Lewis and Clark has schools in Plaza, Ryder, Makoti and Berthold.
The Lewis and Clark Board of Education and the Lewis and Clark Education Association began bargaining on May 18. On July 6, in a letter to Fact Finding Commission Chairman Tom Hesford, Brian Nelson, superintendent of Lewis and Clark, reported that negotiations were at impasse.
On Aug. 31, a hearing of the North Dakota Education Fact Finding Commission was convened at Lewis and Clark High School and, as a result, the following recommendations were presented.
1.) A two-year contract covering academic year 2009-2011.
2.) a $1,000 increase to the base salary with no corresponding increase to teachers’ salaries.
3.) A flat dollar increase to all teachers of $500 during the first year of the contract.
