Taxable sales and purchases took a double digit jump in Parshall during the second quarter of 2010, giving indications that much of the traffic seen is not just passing through town.
According to the Office of State Tax Commissioner, Parshall’s second quarter taxable sales and purchases jumped 25.64 percent over the second quarter of 2009, from $666,128 to $836,920. That represents one of the largest increases from quarter to quarter for Parshall in recent history.
The numbers are consistent with what has been going on statewide, which showed a 14 percent increase. It is also consistent with trends here in the west, where some communities will show staggering increases.
Tax Commissioner Cory Fong recently held a news conference in Williston to announce an 87 percent growth for that community which is showing taxable sales and purchases that rival Bismarck, a much bigger city.
