Developers gauge support for riverside project

Developers gauge support for riverside project
By Jerry W. Kram
Richard Stevens and Theron Larroquette put on a persuasive show.
The two men gave a presentation at the New Town Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday, April 10 to inform the public about their plans for a oilfield worker development on the Missouri River west of New Town. The 300 lot development would be in section 12 of Sanish Township north of Sanish Bay. The development would adjoin the Sanish Riverside Cemetary, which is in Section 11.
The development, called the Missouri River Lodge, will be located on property owned by the Aftem Lake Development, Inc., of Minot. Stevens said that the group’s plan for the property is to develop 1,500 worker suites in 300 15x76 foot five-room units. The two men said the development would not be like typical man camps, but would have a secure gated entrance, paved streets, streetlights, fire hydrants, landscaped lots and its own sewage treatment plant. A small commercial area on the north side of the development would have a restaurant, gymnasium, health clinic, and convenience store that would be open to the public.
