Council, school consider working together on library project

Parshall School District Superintendent Steve Cascaden and school board member Karmen Taft met with the Parshall City Council Tuesday in an effort to consider working together on the building of a community library.
Cascaden told the council that since part of the elementary school has been torn apart to repair a standing water issue, now is the opportune time to build a library on the school grounds.
The city is also considering adding a library to the new city hall that will be built on the south side of the current city hall.
“I could see a school/city library combination in about a year,” Cascaden said. “There’s plenty of room in the playground area.”
Cascaden suggested it would be beneficial for both entities to work together on one project instead of duplicating services.
“It doesn’t make a lot of sense to spend all this money and you maintain a library and we maintain a library,” Cascaden said. “It will be state of the art and a lot of communities do this. It’s about time and with what’s going on in the elementary, it’s the perfect time to do it.”
Cascaden said he expects a school board vote to go ahead with library plans in late fall or early winter.
