Council plans golf course changes

By Jerry W. Kram

The Parshall City Council wants to see a few changes at the Doc Blatherwick Memorial Golf Course as it takes over ownership this year.

The biggest change may be a little better security for the clubhouse and other buildings on the course. Auditor Kelly Woessner said that there are way too many keys to the buildings on the golf course floating around the community. She worries that equipment like the rental golf carts could be damaged by vandals or accidents unless the locks were changed. She recommended going to a master key system and limiting the number of keys that are issued to staff and bona fide golf course members.

Tom Huus noted that there were already golfers using the course even though it hasn’t been opened for the season. The discussion centered on the need to decide with the Parshall Golf Association who is going to be managing and staffing the course this year.

"They have a lot of expensive equipment up there," Huus said. "You can do a lot of damage in a hurry if you don’t have someone there who knows what they are doing."
