Council hears of water plant changes

Jasper Klein didn’t waste any time while he had the podium at the Parshall City Council meeting Tuesday morning.
Klein, with Advanced Engineering in Bismarck, presented two bills for the new water treatment plant totaling well over $1 million. Klein told the council the bills to ICS for $936,903.63 and Edling Electric for $493,862.20 are the result of materials and labor as the new treatment plant comes a big step closer to completion.
The council didn’t waste any of Klein’s time either, deferring debate and passing the expenditure of both bills.
At that time, city engineer Cory Chorne, also with Advanced Engineering, joined Klein at the podium to take about updates and changes in the construction of the plant that is located about 18 miles southwest of Parshall.
Chorne said a change was made on the support structures for the intake that is located in Lake Sakakawea. After reviewing data from early soil tests, he said he wasn’t confident the soil would have enough bearing strength to hold the intake in place so requested an additional $45,975 to get the materials to keep the intake from ever sinking into the lake bed.
