Could Parshall see a building boom in 2010

Judging by numerous presentations made at Wednesday’s city council meeting, Parshall has a good chance of seeing a generous amount of new construction in 2010.
Of course, nothing is etched in stone. But those who made presentations for building and/or zoning changes, are serious about their endeavors and are expected back for the regular March meeting to further discuss their plans.
Wednesday’s meeting was rescheduled from Tuesday to accommodate Left Right Productions, a film crew from New York that is working on a documentary about Parshall.
First on the agenda was a truck wash and shop and maintenance area just north of the North Dakota Department of Transportation building along N.D. Highway 37.
In making their presentation, the Andes family, which owns the land north of Cenex and the Highway Department building, said the shop could include a roustabout service company and some living quarters.
It is anticipated that funding could be in place in 90-120 days for construction to start. Patrons of the proposed shop would gain access from N.D. 37 as well as the county road that runs past the Highway Department building.
However, few other details were given to the city council other than rough sketches of the proposed construction site.
“Try to estimate costs by next month, come back and we’ll discuss it,” city auditor Loren Hoffman said. “We’d like a really good blueprint with the building, the parking lot and so on.”
Dennis Steele made the second presentation, who told the council he had purchased property east of N.D. 37 last year believing it was commercial, but instead is zoned agricultural.
His request was to rezone the area straight east of East Central Avenue to commercial for the purpose of building a restaurant and lounge on the site that currently has several vacant buildings.
