City council awards more than $7 million in water plant bids

With the help of city engineer Cory Chorney, Parshall City Council members pored through bid numbers for the new water plant on Lake Sakakawea. When they finished Tuesday, three construction companies were awarded bids totaling $7.65 million.
Industrial Contract Services of Grand Forks will be the general contractor after turning in a bid of $6,065,700. The ICS bid includes a caveat that will save the city $54,000, according to Chorney.
Chorney, Advanced Engineering in Bismarck, said when ICS submitted its bid it included a raw water screen that would be used as a filter to stop some of the larger impurities from getting through the pipeline and into the plant. Chorney said he has worked with a number of communities that have opted not to use the filter and he has yet to see any difficulties. the council then voted to nix the $54,000 filter.
