Embattled Parshall School District Superintendent Steve Cascaden told the school board in special session Wednesday that he is resigning from his position.
Cascaden has been the school’s superintendent the past 11 years after coming to western North Dakota from Montana.
He didn’t appear at the special meeting, but school board President Carol Zacher read his letter of resignation.
“Stop the train because this is where I’m getting off,” Cascaden said. “I am resigning at the end of my contract.”
Cascaden, whose contract expires on June 30, went on to thank those people he has worked with and who have been dedicated to the district. He acknowledged numerous changes during his tenure.
Cascaden came under fire in December during and after his annual evaluation. It was revealed that of 37 areas of evaluation, he received at least one unsatisfactory mark out of a possible five
on 23 of them.
