Bids for Parshall street project under budget

The Parshall City Council got a pleasant Friday the 13th surprise when bids for the first stage of the citywide street and sewer project came in nearly a million dollars lower than expected.
The city’s engineering firm AE2S had estimated that the project would cost the city $3.9 million, according to company spokesman Loren Hoffman. Hoffman and engineers Todd Norton and Jasper Klein presented the results of the April 10 bid opening to the council at a special meeting on April 13. The three bids were much lower than expected, coming in at $3.0 million to $3.5 million.
The winning bid was submitted by Kvamsdahl Construction of Willmar, Minn. with a bid of $3,059,121. The company is currently finishing last year’s 4th Street project. The first stage of the project will include sewer and street reconstruction on Main Street and 7th Avenue.
Klien said the council had 65 days to consider the bids but recommended immediate approval so Kvamsdahl could begin work as soon as the contracts were signed. He said it usually takes three to four weeks to get construction contracts finalized.
