Aslakson Retires from Reservation Telephone
By Edna Sailor
If Royce Aslakson seems a bit more relaxed these days, there is good reason for it. He is winding down his 28 years of service to Reservation Telephone Cooperative. His retirement date is set for June 1, 2015. Meanwhile, Aslakson is working closely with his successor, Shane Hart to ensure a smooth transition of operations.
With his departure, Aslakson leaves a strong company, exciting future possibilities and a host of memories in his wake. He leaves a much different cooperative than the one he began working for nearly three decades ago.
"Working at the telephone company has always been a good job," he said. "But it was a lot more peaceful in the beginning. When I started there were only 4300 access lines with about 3800 customers. We were a small cooperative with cable TV operation and about 20 channels. Things flowed normally with very few problems. We had about 25 employees and were a close family. We still are but things have changed since then."
"Everything operated out of Parshall and there was not so much windshield time in those days." he added.
