Youth wrestling returns to Garrison

Ready, wrestle.
Thirty-four young wrestlers from grades 1-6 at Garrison’s Bob Callies Elementary School are learning the fundamentals of the sport over the next few weeks.
The Pee Wee wrestling program is coordinated by Dillon Sprenger, a Garrison High grad and former wrestler for the Velva-Garrison Aggies wrestling team.
Sprenger said practice began March 1 at the Body Shop Studio on Main Street. The program goes through April.
The young grapplers practice three days a week and participate in weekend tournaments. Meets are set for Rugby, Minot, Stanley, Harvey and Velva.
Assisting Sprenger are Jerremy Kolden, Tory Seidler, Nathan Turck, Willow Sprenger and Jerry Erck.
Sprenger said the goal of the program is for the young wrestlers to learn as much as they can and to earn a respect for teamwork.
He said so far, practices and meets have been going well, although, he admitted at times things get a bit chaotic. He said he’s thankful parents have stepped forward to assist with the program, which is school affiliated.
Many of the wrestlers are first-timers. Included in the team are four girls.
