Wildcats third in state

The Lewis & Clark Wildcats made the most of their first trip to a state baseball tournament in more than 30 years, claiming third place hardware.
Saturday, the Wildcats clipped the Washburn-Wilton-Center Stanton Cardinals 4-3 in eight innings to claim the third place trophy. Chandler Karna picked up the win. Evan Eberle took the loss for W-W-C-S. The Wildcats closed out the season 14-6, while the Cardinals season ended at 22-5. The N.D. State B Baseball tournament was this past week in Jamestown.
This past Friday, the Wildcats fought hard, but fell to eventual state champion Beulah 6-1.
Other scores saw Bottineau bounce Hatton-Northwood 9-0, Kindred-Richland rolled Carrington 5-0, and Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton was handled by Grafton 11-4.
The Wildcats closed out opening day action at state, squaring off against last year’s state champ, Region 1’s Kindred/Richaland. The Wildcats prevailed in a 2-1 nail-biter. The star of the game was Chandler Karna. The senior fashioned a five-hitter, fanning seven.
Opening round scores had Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton clipping Bottineau 4-3; Grafton eked past Hatton-Northwood 3-1; and Beulah, the Region 7 champ, rolled past Carrington 8-1.
