VG’s Hildre wins 152-pound crown in 47th annual East-West Classic
Carson Hildre of Velva/Garrison captured the 152-pound title, while teammate Isaiah Hackman finished as the runner-up at 107, leading the Aggies to a runner-up finish in the team standings at the 47th annual East-West Class Wrestling Tournament, held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, in New Salem.
Hildre, the second seed at 152, recorded pins over Hillsboro/Central Valley’s Cade Mueller (1:45), Zade Heier (4:00) of Oakes, and Lisbon’s Ryan Enge (1:38) to reach the finals against Trenton Klatt of New Salem-Almont, who upset top-seeded Corbin Clifton with a 1-0 decision in the semi-finals. Hildre and Klatt went into overtime in a scoreless deadlock, but Hildre recorded a takedown in the extra session to take the title with a 3-0 decision.
