Troopers turn back Hazen

It was bitterly cold outside Roy Schei Gym Saturday evening. But inside, the Garrison Troopers boys basketball team was on fire – especially Noah Sloka who tied a school record, canning seven 3-pointers.
Sloka’s scoring and the team’s tenacious defense down the stretch gave new Coach Justin Folk his first victory as the Troop held off a determined Hazen squad 65-62.
After a pair of postponements it was the Troopers’ first game of the season.
Sloka’s threes, six in the first half, were all twine. Nash Wimer added a trey in the first quarter, and Marc Gratton threw in eight more in the first half that saw the Troop on top 35-30 at intermission.
Though Sloka only hit one more three in the fourth quarter, ending the night with 24, it was Hazen ace Wyatt Carr’s turn to shine.
Carr carried the Bison on his shoulders the fourth quarter, scoring 16 of Hazen’s 18 points. He closed with 24 points.
It was the Trooper “D” that kept the Bison from taking the lead as the clock ticked down.
