After getting a bye in round one, the Troopers came into round two of the District 10 tournament hungry for a win.
The boys wasted no time pulling ahead of the Cardinals, with aid from Conner Kerzmann and Jack Bright, who sank some quick two pointers for the Troopers. Washburn struggled with field goals in the first quarter but avoided falling too far behind through some successful free throws.
The Troopers hit their rhythm in the second quarter, pulling out three three pointers and dramatically growing the lead over the Cardinals, who managed four points in the period. Heading into half, Garrison held a 31-14 lead.
Washburn pushed back in the second half, keeping Garrison’s lead from growing in the third and closing the gap in the fourth. Fouls hurt the Cardinals in the final quarter, as Garrison made nine out of 13 shots at the line and closed the game 57-44.
Kerzmann led the team with 21 points total and one three pointer. Gage Gehring, Jackson Rensch and Braxton Iglehart each took a three apiece.
