Troopers scare state’s No. 1

The boys in blue and white have put teams on notice that when they play the Garrison Troopers, they’re going to be in for the battle of their lives.
The Troop gave its first reality check to the visiting Beulah Miners Monday night. Not only did the Troopers battle toe-to-toe with the big boys from across the lake, they darned near beat the No. 1 team in the state.
Garrison came to play, leading 14-10 after the first quarter. At half the game was tied and the Trooper faithful were on the edge of their seats. At the end of three, the Miners were up only three. And even though the Miners prevailed in the end to win 68-55, the Troopers gave them more than they could handle.
Fans swarmed the Troopers at the conclusion of the game, and Coach Jason Mattheis couldn’t thank the fans enough for their support. He said he is glad the fans have something to cheer about.
“It’s been a while … tonight they made a difference. They were great to hear,” he said.
