Troopers resilient in victory
Team overcomes 20-point deficit to win

Looking at another loss this past Friday night, the Garrison Troopers took a deep breath at half time and overcame a 20-point deficit early in the third quarter to pick up a key District 10 win over the Underwood Comets, 76-74. It was the highest output by the Troopers all season. The game was in Garrison and moved the team’s record to 1-2 in the district, 3-9 overall.
Coach Jason Mattheis shared that lackluster play in the first two quarters was the paramount topic at intermission.
“We just talked about our effort in the first half,” he confided. “I thought we came out and were just going through the motions.
“We talked about the kind of effort that we should expect every day and what we needed to do to find that effort in the second half.”
The talk paid off. In the second half the Troopers responded, playing harder – especially in the defensive zone.
Mattheis explained what happened: “Our defensive intensity really increased, which resulted in more confidence on the offensive end. Our guys really started to come together down the stretch.”
