Troopers qualify for regionals

By MINDY IGLEHART

The District 10 Boys Basketball Tournament came to a close Monday with Washburn coming in as the No. 1 seed, and heading home with the first place trophy in hand.

Troopers Coach Jason Mattheis said before districts started that any team could advance to regionals. That was the case as the No. 5 Underwood Comets and No. 6 Garrison Troopers advance to Monday’s Region 5 tourney as the No. 3 and No. 4 seed. Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky held on to the No. 2 seed.

The Troopers struggled on Friday, losing 41-57, against an aggressive TL-M-M defense that stopped the Troopers in their tracks and held power house Noah Larson to just 12 of the team’s 41 points.

Saturday, the Troop came out knowing that a win was the only thing that would save them from being eliminated from the tournament, thus ending their season. Garrison hit the court hard, outscoring Center-Stanton 25-8 after one continuing their rampage throughout the game, sealing the win 71-40.
