Troopers open in Velva

The high school sports season is officially underway. It began this past Friday when the Garrison Troopers cross country team hit the ground running at the Mouse River Local in Velva.
Running conditions were not the best as the temperature hit the low 90’s and there was a strong breeze.
Coach Jason Ermer said in talking with the athletes before the run, they had a calm demeanor but did admit that they were a little nervous, excited and anxious on the inside.
Megan Johnson was the first Garrison runner to go for the Troop, and even though she looked a little tight, she started the race well. Ermer chalked it up to nerves.
“I felt she ran a strong race, especially considering it was her first meet,” Ermer said. “I think what impressed me the most was her strong finish. There was a small hill to the finish line and Megan ran through it very well. It was a very good start to the season.
