Troopers in new football alignment

Troopers in new football alignment

Except for the final rounds of the high school football playoffs, the 2012 season is in the books.
But already, the buzz is about the new alignment in Class A 11-man football. The new arrangement will bring all McLean County football teams into the same region.
Instead of competing against teams in northwest North Dakota, for the next two years the Troop will be heading south and southwest.
The new region includes Central McLean, Southern McLean, New Salem-Almont-Glen Ullin, Hazen, Killdeer and Heart River.
Coach Jason Mattheis and Trooper Athletic Director Jason Ermer are both excited at the  potential the new alignment offers the team and fans.
“It will bring back some natural rivalries that haven’t existed in football in a long time,” said Mattheis. “We have played Southern McLean the last two seasons, but now they are a regional team, so there is a little more on the line than just a trophy.”
