Troopers gridders humbled

The Southern McLean Roughriders came to Garrison this past Friday night, stunning the boys in blue 39-14.
Carrying the game to the Troopers, the Riders relied on a stingy defense and the arm and legs of Southern McLean QB Caleb Weisgarber who ran for four TDs.
Trooper coach Jason Mattheis said the team and coaching staff are moving ahead, focusing on Friday’s game against Heart River. The Troopers, now 2-1, remain positive.
"We still believe that we have the potential to be a playoff team, but we will need to prove it this week," Mattheis said. "I don’t think we feel that we owe Heart River from last year, (a heart-breaking 34-33 loss in Garrison) but we are focused on playing the best football that we can so we can find ourselves still playing football in late October."
The Roughriders virtually neutralized the Trooper running game, making the team one-dimensional. Taking away the run, the Roughriders keyed on the pass, picking off Trooper QB Noah Sloka five times.
