When the Garrison Troopers originally faced off against the Standing Rock Warriors a month ago, the game was a close one, ending 62-64 in favor of the latter.
Last Thursday, the Warriors again held a close lead and ultimately triumphed over the Troopers 68-76, taking third place in the Region 5 Boys Basketball Tournament in
Bismarck. The Warriors, a taller and older team – eight of their players are 6’2 or more and 10 are seniors – with a 7-3 record in the region, were running on winning streak at the tailend of their season until their final, pre-tournament match against Shiloh Christian, where the team from Standing Rock lost by five. Going into the tournament, they won against
New Salem-Almont Holsteins 90-64, but fell to the Wilton-Wing Miners the following day 73-80. Much like their first meeting with Garrison, the Warriors won against the Holsteins and lost to the Miners during their season games Jan. 11 and Feb. 8, respectively.
