Troopers get Mega win
By STU MERRY
The Garrison-Max Troopers extracted years of revenge this past Friday night against their neighbors to the south, the Southern McLean Roughriders. At stake was the coveted Mega Bowl trophy. While the trophy is nice, bragging rights to the county for the coming year is even sweeter.
The Troopers prevailed over the Roughriders, in Washburn, 18-8. The week prior, the Troopers defeated the other county football team, Central McLean, 43-2. Winning the county was the team’s goal at the beginning of the year. That behind them, the Troopers’ goal is to keep the winning streak alive and to secure a regional playoff birth.
This is the first Mega Bowl win for the Troop since 1996. With the win, G-M has built its first two-game winning streak since 2000.
The Troopers seem to be finding themselves. Against the ‘Riders, the Troop racked up 217 yards through the air and 82 on the ground.
