Troopers, Cossacks fall at regions

It was a case of the killer “B’s” Monday night for both the Garrison Troopers and Max Cossacks at the opening round of the Region 5 Girls Basketball Tournament in Mandan.
In the Cossacks’ case, the killer bee was the swarming defense that took the Cossacks out of the game early. Standing Rock blew out to a 14-0 lead and won going away, 98-52.
For the Troopers, the killer “B” was the lethal tandem of Sydney and Ashley Bentz. The two combined for 45 of Grant County’s 64 points as the Coyotes came from behind to defeat Garrison 64-38. The loss eliminated both teams from the tournament.
The lone District 10 team to see another day was No. 1 seed Washburn. The Cards demolished Shiloh Christian 69-28. In the nightcap, New Salem-Almont took overtime, but defeated Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky 55-49.
Tuesday, Washburn advanced to the championship game with a one-point overtime win, 62-61, over Standing Rock.
