Troopers coming up big The recent play of the Garrison-Max Troopers volleyball team is putting smiles on the faces of the coaching staff and fans, and making believers out of opponents who lay in their wake. This past week, the Troopers picked up two big wins over district foes Washburn and Wilton-Wing by identical 3-2 scores. In Monday’s match against the Miners, the Troopers came back from a 2-0 deficit. "It was quite a match, and it really showed what kind of team we really have this year," exclaimed Coach Jim Snustad. "When a team can fight back when their back is up against the wall shows the true character of the team. That is especially true when the team is missing a starter and players on the court are a little different than what the team is used to." Out for the game was Sami Seidler who is attending the national FFA Convention. If things play out Wednesday during the seeding meetings the Troopers, along with Washburn, should get a first game bye when the district tournament rolls around, beginning Oct. 30. Snustad said he sees the district as wide open. "I think that any one of four teams could walk away with the District tournament championship," he said. "It just depends on which of the four teams really want it. I feel our chances are as good as any, especially since we have the confidence knowing that we have beaten the other three contenders (Washburn, Wilton-Wing and Underwood). The Troopers have won four-straight after going on a four-game losing streak. The Troop opened the season 2-1.
