Troopers come up short

Even though their record stands at 1-6, the Garrison Troopers boys basketball team is making positive strides in the right direction.
This past Friday, the Troopers battled perennial District 10 powerhouse Wilton toe-to-toe, and if not for a Hail Mary three near the end of the third quarter, the score would have been knotted at 44. In the end, the Miners prevailed, winning by 10, 66-56.
Saturday, the Troopers went up against a pretty good Hazen Bison squad, and again competed to the end, finally losing by four, 65-61. It was the highest point output by the team this year.
Coach Jason Mattheis observed that the Troopers’ shot selection is getting better, but the team needs to play a full 32 minutes of ball..
“We forced some bad shots or rushed some shots down the stretch of both games that put us in a bad spot,” Mattheis said, adding he thought the team started to panic at about the 3-minute mark of each game.
