Win OT thriller over Washburn
By STU MERRY
The Garrison Troopers have started out the season on the right foot. The Troop opened with a 62-45 win over Drake Nov. 28.
Then, at this past weekend’s McLean County Boys Tournament, the boys in blue brought home a nice third place finish and are off to a 4-1 start.
The Troopers claimed third, taking an overtime thriller against District 10 foe Washburn, 53-47. The Troopers opened the tournament with a 48-33 victory over Center Stanton. High powered Beulah handed the Troopers their lone setback of the season so far, defeating Garrison 74-41.
With only four games in the book, the Troopers are nearly halfway (3) to their total wins for last year (8). Coach Jason Mattheis said the boys are playing with a lot of confidence right now.
“They know they can compete against anybody we play,” he said.
He credits the players for taking the bull by the horns this season.
“Most of our guys are off to a better start shooting the ball, which leads to more confidence for us defensively,” Mattheis added.
