Trooper JV teams second, fifth

For most county varsity girls and boys basketball teams, it was a brief respite before the run to districts begins its final leg.
This past week, girls and boys JV teams competed in their respective county tournaments.
The Trooper boys brought home a second place finish, while the Trooper girls were consolation champions in Turtle Lake.

It came down to the Troopers vs. a much larger Shiloh Christian in the finals of the boys JV Tournament in Wilton. In the end, the Skyhawks prevailed 56-45.
Trooper Coach Jason Ermer said the boys came out slow, but finished strong at the end of the quarter. The Achilles heel was the third quarter. "In the second half their size killed up,"Ermer said. "They played good defense and hit their free throws down the stretch."
In the semis, the Troop prevailed over Washburn 59-52.
"We played well … it was a team effort,"Ermer said. "Washburn made a run. I can’t say enough about the kids. They stepped their game up."
In the opener, Garrison handled Center-Stanton 56-52. The boys jumped to a 13-point lead by end of the first quarter but Center-Stanton made some adjustments and was able to close it to three by half-time.
