In their first action of the season, the Trooper seventh grade basketball team faced the visiting Max Cossacks. Cain Foss set the tempo in the first possession by drilling a three-pointer from the top of the circle and the Troopers never looked back. A smothering defense forced turnovers and prevented the Cossacks from getting into a rhythm offensively, allowing the Troopers to cruise a convincing win.
The Troopers got scoring from seven of the nine players dressed, led by Eddie White Bear’s 20 and Foss’s 12.
Garrison 21 32 38 52
Max 0 6 8 8
Trooper scoring: Foss 12; Eddie WhiteBear 20; Riley Mautz 6; Nash Wimer 6; Isaac Perman 4; Jaaron Kamp 2; Matt Pease 2. (3-pointers: Foss 2) FTs 0-4
Cossacks scoring: Jamison Diaz 3; Trysten Barth 2; Dalton Hauf 3.
After a frustrating 3-point, first game loss at Parshall, the Trooper eighth grade team was hoping to get into the win column against a tough Max team. This game was close throughout with neither team able to get enough defensive stops or go on a long enough run to get a comfortable lead. Fans got more than their money’s worth as the game went into overtime before the Troopers pulled out a 38-34 win.
The first quarter ended with Max up by one. In the second quarter, the Cossacks scored some easy hoops off effective pick and roll plays near the low block which the Troopers struggled to defend. But the game remained close with the Troopers up 18-17 at halftime.
