Trooper golfers at state

Not too bad of a season.
That’s how Troopers boys’ golf Coach Mark Harris said, looking back on this year’s weather-shortened golf season. The abbreviated season concluded this past week at the state tournaments. The Garrison-Max Troopers girls’ team competed at the state level for the 10th year in a row. After returning to state last year, the boys’ team failed to qualify for state. The lone male golfer advancing to state in Jamestown was Levi Tomlinson.
As a team, the lady Troopers ended up 14th out of 18 teams at Carrington, turning in a score of 820. The Troopers concluded the first day of play also in 14th place. The tournament winner, for the second year running, was the team from Hazen. The Lady Bison golfers carded a 689. Hazen girls’ golfers have won the state Class B crown three of the last four years.
Leading the way for the Troopers was junior Alyssa Mehlhoff. She turned in a score of 195 – good for a 62nd place finish. Senior Anna Pechacek closed out her career with a nice 199, finishing in 70th place. The only other senior on the squad, Molly Fradenburgh, placed 113th with a 235.
Coach Loni Hall observed that the girls shot their best score as a team this year, which, she said, was exciting.
In day-one action, Hall said the inclement weather played a factor in the play of all golfers. Speaking about Wednesday action, Hall said the weather was finally nice and was a good way to end the year.
