Trooper girls pick up a win
Trooper girls pick up a win By STU MERRY Chalk one up in the "W" column for the Garrison Lady Troopers. Monday night, the Troopers held on to defeat Powers Lake 42-34 in Powers Lake. This past Saturday saw a return to the lineup for senior Sam Lind who has been out due to rules violations. Her presence on the court paid quick dividends. Lind poured in 19 points, added 11 steals and seven rebounds her first night out. Coach Sandra Essler said what hurt the Troopers was foul trouble and turnovers in the fourth quarter. "We just couldn’t recover, " Essler said. Lind’s presence and leadership was evident again against Powers Lake as well where she drained 23 points, adding six steals and hauling in eight rebounds to pace the Lady T’s. Helping out was Jaimee WhiteBear who had a nice game throwing in nine points. But the Troopers also became complacent, nearly squandering away a 22-point lead. Catching new life, thanks to cool shooting and poor decision making by the Troopers, the Ranchers made a game out of it in the fourth quarter, but the Troopers held on for the win, the team’s second of the season.
