Trooper boys seek ‘W’

The Garrison Troopers boys basketball team continues to look for its first win of the season.
Presently, the team is 0-4 on the season following losses this past week to New Town (66-60 OT), Flasher (57-56) and Hazen (63-51).
While the coaching staff admits there’s work to be done over Christmas break, fans are reminded last year’s team started 1-6, finishing 11-13, advancing to play three games in the region tournament.
"We are confident that we will continue to improve so we are playing our best basketball at the end of the season," said Coach Jason Mattheis. "The tough schedule to open will only help."
Tough indeed. New Town and Hazen are receiving state ranking consideration. The Troop took New Town to overtime and fell to Hazen by 12. The Flasher loss was by one point.
New Town – "We led most of the way and let it slip at the end," Mattheis said." We had the ball and had the opportunity for a shot at the buzzer at the end of regulation, but couldn’t get a shot off." The Troopers missed the front end of a bonus free throw that could have sealed the game with 12 seconds left. "Too many missed free throws and turnovers," Mattheis lamented.
