Trooper boys seek consistency

The Garrison Troopers boys basketball team continues searching for an identity.
At last weekend’s McLean County Shootout, the boys went 1-1, and on the season they are 4-3.
In Friday’s contest, the Troopers edged past Richardton-Taylor in overtime, 63-56. Saturday, a tough Solen team turned back Garrison 59-40. Jan. 3, the boys held the lead but fell to District 10 foe Turtle Lake-Mercer 50-48.
Coach Justin Folk said consistency remains elusive.
“Although we were 1-2 we played some really good teams,” he said.
Against Richardton-Taylor, the Troopers started strong, but let the opponents get back into it and take the lead. That forced the Troopers to come from behind again in the fourth quarter to force overtime, coming out with the “W.”
Saturday, the Troopers played one of the better teams in the region in Solen.
“We played really good defense and not great offensively,” Folk said.
With about 2:30 left it was a 6-point game but Solen pushed the floor to balloon the lead to 19 at the end.
