A 15-4 fourth quarter outburst enabled the Garrison Lady Troopers to pick up their second win of the season Monday night, a 51-43 win over Powers Lake. The contest was at the Roy Schei Gym in Garrison.
Three Troopers scored in double figures, led by Brittney Klein who drained 14. Sommer Johnson threw in 11 – seven in the pivotal fourth quarter – and McKenzie Matteson threw in 10 more.
The win put a smile on the face of Coach Sandra Essler who shared that defensive pressure that created a couple turnovers made the difference.
“We were patient on the offensive end,” Essler observed.
“Kenzie Matteson hit two big free throws and Sommer Johnson hit from the field (in the fourth quarter) … all players stepped it up in the fourth quarter to come from behind,” Essler praised.
But the win didn’t come without a price. Essler noted that Caitlin Wilcox, a sub, is out with a fractured arm.
