Troop outruns Cossacks

While the girls’ basketball season has moved on to the district portion of the schedule, the calendar is running out on the boys’ season.
The Garrison Troopers have four games remaining on their schedule, including a make-up game against Parshall that was postponed Tuesday due to inclement weather. The game will be rescheduled.
At Max, the Cossacks’ schedule is down to three. It also includes a make-up game against Westhope that was scheduled for Tuesday. That game will be Saturday in Newburg with the JV game set to begin at 11 a.m. with varsity at 12:30.
This past Saturday, the annual battle between the Cossacks and Troopers took place on Garrison’s home turf.
The Troopers played like gangbusters, blowing out to a 22-12 first quarter lead. At the half, Garrison was up 44-27.
The Troopers forced 22 Max turnovers, converting them into 29 points en route to a 74-50 district win.

In spite of the loss, Max Head Coach Erik Klein said there’s no doubt in his mind the Cossacks are improving every day.
“Even though we have not found ourselves on the winning side of the scoreboard I am happy with the positive attitude’s on the team,” he said. “As of late we have been playing better team basketball on the offensive side of the court. However, we need to be able to play for four full quarters. We have moments that we look like a very sound basketball team, now we need to be able to do that for the entire game.”
Klein said he is confident that this can be done through hard work on defense and through strong rebounding.
