Troop ousted at districts

Troop ousted at districts

All district teams fall at regions

By STU MERRY

The joy of advancing to regionals was short-lived for all four District 10 teams, though, all four were bounced in opening round play of the Region 5 Tournament Monday. Turtle Lake-Mercer fell to Flasher 3-1, Standing Rock did the same number (3-1) on Washburn, New Salem shutout Sheridan County 3-0, and Center-Stanton eliminated Wilton-Wing by a 3-0 count as well. The region tournament is also at Underwood.

But for the Garrison-Max Troopers, the chance to even advance to regional play fell by the wayside this past Friday in Underwood. Wilton-Wing rolled past the Troopers 3-0, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-16. The shutout ended any dreams of a regional berth for the Lady Troopers. Coming into the tournament, the Troopers had taken two from Wilton-Wing, winning 3-0 Sept. 25.

Coming into the districts, the Troopers were on a bit of a roll – going 7-2 down the stretch. But the bubble burst for the Troop as districts rolled around.

Leaders for the Troopers against the Miners were Sami Seidler who had six kills; Brianna Johnson and McKenzie Matteson had one block each; Sierra Lassila dished off nine assists; Kim Gienger finished with 13 digs, while McKenzie Matteson collected three aces.
