The McLean County tournament kicked off the girls’ basketball season in Wilton this past weekend. The tournament gives teams an early chance to size themselves up against tough competition and determine what they need to improve upon as the season gets underway.
The games culminated on Saturday as the eight-team field fought to earn their final standings.
In the 7th place game, Wilton-Wing wasted no time putting the ball in the hoop and shutting down nearly all scoring for White Shield. In the end the Miners cruised 62-26.
Underwood claimed 5th place, taking down Garrison 63-39. The Comets’ Crystal Dammen led her team with 21 points. Sommer Johnson had the most points for the Troopers, who struggled to get good looks at the hoop, with nine.
Taking third in the night’s penultimate game was the Washburn Cardinals who scored 21 points in both the second and third quarters to propel themselves over the Max Cossacks, 69-44. Samantha Schell put up 25 for the Cardinals and Christina Jacobs0n marked down 13 points for the Cossacks.
