Trojans repeat at districts
Troopers, Cossacks sent packing

The Turtle Lake-Mercer Trojans once again sit on the District 10 throne. The Trojans showed their dominance in the district for the second year in a row, defeating the Wilton Miners 65-53 for the district title Monday night in Washburn.
It was the third year running that the Trojans and Miners have battled it out for District 10 bragging rights.
Last year, the Trojans came out on top 60-58 on their way to a second place finish in the State Class B Tournament. Two years ago it was the Miners who prevailed, outlasting TLM 75-64.
In region qualifying games, Washburn dispensed the Garrison Troopers by 10, 57-47. Underwood outlasted Sheridan County 76-68.
The Trojans found themselves down by six after the first quarter, 16-10. But the second quarter TLM flexed its muscles, outscoring the upset-minded Miners 30-13. Not to be outdone, the Miners put on a little surge of their own in the third quarter, pulling to within six. Turn the page and the Trojans used the run as a wake-up call to lead by 15, 55-40 after three. Cameron Malzer poured in 30 for TLM. Grant Singer added 13. Lorin St. Claire led the Miners with 21. Austin Dusek tossed in 14.
The Trojans had the corner on the market in the post-season awards as well. Robert Martin was named athletic director of the year. Malzer carted off senior athlete of the year honors, while his coach, Joi Anderson, was tabbed as District 10 Coach of the Year.
In Saturday action, TLM steamrolled past Underwood to the tune of 92-39. Wilton overpowered Washburn 51-42. Max was the first team dismissed from the tournament, suffering a 67-51 setback at the hands of the Sheridan County Coyotes.
In opening round action, Underwood outlasted Garrison 53-47; Wilton rolled past Max 75-52, and Washburn handled Sheridan County 63-52.
