Track team shines at indoor meet

The Garrison-Max track team got the 2014 track season off to a good start this past week, turning in a good showing at the first meet of the season, a Northwest Conference indoor meet at the MSU Dome.
The girls squad brought home a fifth place finish, while the guys pulled down a fourth place result.
Some notables include Levi Hummel finishing 1st in the long jump and in the 55m. While the 55m dash is not an outdoor event, it does indicate that Levi can compete, said Coach Jason Ermer.
"We were also happy with all our relays," he said. "Some of our athletes felt they were slow, but indoor track is tough to get a good time because of the very tight corners."
A large contingent of G-M athletes competed in the long jump. Some want to give the triple jump a try. "I think we can score some points in that event on both the boys and girls side," Ermer continued.
The junior high squad also competed. While they were against high school students that were a little intimidating, the coaches saw plenty of promise. "We believe that there are some good tracksters coming up," Ermer said.
