The tradition continues

Lady golfers heading to state

By STU MERRY

It’s become as annual as spring itself. A Garrison girls golf team advancing to the state tournament. This is the 14th time in 15 consecutive years a Garrison team has advanced to a state girls tournament. To put things into perspective, that’s as long as some of this year’s team has been alive. It can be said, tradition never graduates.

This past Friday the Lady Troopers went back to Rugby to claim 3rd place in Region 4 and a qualifying spot at state with a 451 to advance to state in Jamestown next week, Tuesday and Wednesday the 27th. Also qualifying from the region are Rugby (1st with a 405) and Central McLean (2nd with a 439).

On the individual side of the meet, Elizabeth Blessum from Rugby claimed the top spot by way of a shootout with teammate Darby Deckert as they both shot a 96.

Mackenzie Jacobson came in 3rd for the Troopers with a 98, also securing herself an individual berth to the state tournament.

Other Trooper scores: Emily Giffey - 109, Kelsea McDowell - 116, Ally Behles - 128, Emily Jaeger - 130, and Grace Scheresky 131.
