If she were a betting woman, Lesli Talbott said she would venture that spring sports wouldn’t return until the first week of May. “No one really wants to cancel (this) week. We’re looking for a miracle,” the activities director from Max School said last Thursday. “We’re taking it day by day and if we can play it, we’ll play it.” Between the blizzard that struck the region April 12-14, a storm that dumped a few more inches of snow on Easter Sunday and a storm that brought rain and a little more snow this past weekend, spring sports
schedules took a huge hit. About two weeks worth of games – baseball, softball, track and field and boys golf – were postponed as fields were covered with snow. These schedule changes have left activities directors scrambling and finding ways to make it work, especially with less than a month before the end of the school year. “Obviously, with our softball
and baseball (teams), there are certain region games we have to get in for seeding for tournament games,” explained Jason Ermer, activities director at Garrison High School. “Those become a priority in scheduling.”
