Shoreline fishing areas open again

Want to go fishing but don’t have a boat? Your prayers have been answered.
An area south of Garrison that was once a hotspot for shoreline fishing has been reopened. The area is about two miles south of Garrison on County 15 and a mile west.
Wayne King, a retired Garrison businessman, along with George Benshoof, a retired area farmer, were shown the area by Mike Palanuk, an advocate for shoreline access.
Seeing what is now available, King was nearly speechless.
“If I’d have known places like this were open, I’d buy a license in a heartbeat,” he said.
“We can’t afford a boat, but I’m going to buy a license and fish right here,” he added, pointing to a spot on the shore. “I’ve got two lines dying to get out there.”
Palanuk could only smile: “That’s what it’s all about.”
The rural Garrison resident said he has been trying to get remote areas open to shoreline fishing for some time. Now, with the water at near peak levels, many of the sites that were once popular for the novice angler are gradually being opened up.
