The doors have closed at the Garrison pool for the season.
At the end of the day Saturday, the pool was shuttered for the season as the Garrison Parks and Recreation department prepare for autumn – and some potential renovations.
Currently, the pool is being drained with the intention to have it painted within the next few weeks, said Laura Hellebush, chairperson of the Garrison Parks and Recreation board.
“Come spring, we’ll hopefully start some changes up there,” she said.
Those changes, which include work on the pump house, are dependent on the weather, as well as grant funding.
“Our first priority will be the pump house,” Hellebush said. “Then it’s going to be the pool building, then the splash pad.”
The pump house includes the pool’s mechanical system.
“All of that stuff has been there for a lot of years,” Hellebush said. “The chlorinator is so outdated we can’t get parts for it.”
Construction will begin depending on whether or not the park board gets the grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant.
“We should know that in early January,” Hellebush said.
