School continues search for football coach

Garrison High School is in need of football coaches -- immediately.
The GHS football program has gone through its share of growing pains in the last few years and has been struggling with finding candidates for coaching positions and filling a varsity roster.
This upcoming fall, the team is looking into the unknown.
As of now, with less than two months until practice begins, the school has neither a head coach nor assistant coach hired.
“Currently, we officially have no coaches for high school football. We have some feelers out and some are considering it but want time to consider if it will work with their schedule. These are for assistant positions,” Garrison High School Athletic Director Jason Ermer said.
An ad has run in the McLean County Independent since early January with no applications submitted for the head coach position.
More recently, Garrison School District Superintendent Nick Klemisch issued a plea via the school’s Facebook page looking for coaches.
“If we have no coaches, we won’t be able to offer the program unless we are able to apply for an emergency co-op with another school,” Ermer said.
There looks to be between eight and 15 students interested in going out for the team this fall, and the majority of the players interested are ninth and tenth graders who may not be willing to go up against veteran junior and senior players from other schools.
If there is no team, that not only affects the football players, but the cheerleading program and pep-band.
Looking back, it’s been a rough run for GHS in recent years.
