More than just bows and arrows

When one thinks about an archery shoot, it’s a simple case of pulling the string back and letting the arrow fly. However, nothing in the archery world is quite that simple.
There were as many different ways to shoot as there were personalities at the annual Buffalo Valley Archers of Hazen’s 3-D Tournament Jan. 29-30.
The final count called for 143 registered shooters over the two-days. The shot usually attracts around 240 archers but cold temperatures and poor driving conditions severely cut that number this winter. According to Club President Howell Flowers, the new location at the Riverdale Lodge was ideal for those who dared venture out in the cold.
“We’ve had people come down and stay overnight, they have really enjoyed it,” he said. “They don’t have to drive, they can stay and visit with their friends and shoot all weekend.”
The tournament is know for allowing almost any kind of shooter in. Whether using a traditional bow or using a compound bow, there still are many other categories to consider. Shooters not using sights are considered barebow hunters. Even those with sights are broken down into bowhunter freestyle and just plain freestyle depending on their equipment.
